1. Eligibility for participation
Eligible for participation in the tournament are all students and lecturers of classical and ancient studies as well as persons who work in the archaeological field (e.g. in a museum or at excavations). There is no objection against guest players - however, not more than two players who are not from the field of classical and ancient studies are allowed on the field at any given time. In case of blatant infringements, we reserve the right to exclude the team from the tournament.
2. Contribution towards expenses
All participants have to pay a participation fee of 15 €. The same is true for persons who will attend the tournament for the complete weekend without actively participating in the football games on the pitch. This fee includes breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning. We will send you the transfer deadline and the account data via mail. If you have problems to transfer the money in time, please get in contact with us. Individual (sic!) players and supporters can of course register late at the WMC itself.
3. Drawing of the groups
There will be a seeded head of each group. They will be based upon the best of table of the past five years. For organisational reasons, we, as hosts, reserve the right to seat french teams as heads of the first two or three groups
Group A:Etoile Rouge
Group B: Spartak La Courneuve
Group C:Chili Con Carnute
Group D: AEVA Jacta Est
A team consists of six outfield players and a permanent goalkeeper. At least one woman has to be on the playing field at any time, more feminine power is willingly accepted, of course. The deployment of high talented junior sportsmen instead of female players will not be accepted. If a team has not at least four players on the field (anymore), the game will automatically be counted as 3:0 for the opposing team. During a game you can substitute as often as wanted, this has to be done on your own responsibility ("flying substitution") during the time outs.
5. Guest players
If a team doesn´t have enough players (e.g. due to injuries, excessive consumption of alcohol), it may borrow a player from another team. Please take note: No player should join more than two teams!
Every team should be dressed in uniform jerseys (at least shirts). If two teams with the same jersey colour meet on the playing field, the organizer provides bibs. The participants should bear in mind to have proper footwear at hand. Due to pitch maintenance and the prevention of injuries, it is strictly forbidden to wear shoes with metal studs. The use of shinguards sadly seems advisable taking the passion and lack of coordination of some players in account but is not compulsory.
7. Playing grounds, goals and balls
The games take place on four small pitches (c. 70 x 35 m). There will be 6 pitches with natural grass. We will take care that every team will play matches on both different pitches. The goals are 5 m wide and 2 m high. The ball will be supplied by the organizer.
8. Playing mode
The matches take place in eight groups with six teams each. One game lasts 20 minutes without any half time break. The positioning in the groups results from the points won in the group matches (victory: 3 points, draw: 1 point). In case of a tie in points, the direct confrontation is considered first, and in case of a draw in this match, the goal difference (if the goal difference is equal, more scored goals are decisive). In case of more than 2 teams equal in points, the direct confrontation between these teams is considered first (first: points; second: goal differene); if thers is still a draw the total goal difference is considered. If even then there isn´t a result, we will contact the teams involved to find a solution.
Each group's first two teams qualify for the knockout round and compete in eighth, quarter, semi and finals. The losers of each knock out round face the other losers of this round in knockout placement matches. Similarly, the teams in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth shall compete in a round for ranking with k.o.-system (three matches for each team). The matches will be shortened to 12 minutes, but therefor all places in the table will be determined.
Probably there will be referees from each teams for both days of the Cup.
A penalty of two minutes is inflicted immediately for rude fouls and excessively enthusiastic arguing. Repeated gamesmanship entails an immediate exclusion of the respective player from the tournament.
11. Return pass
Goalkeepers are not allowed to catch the ball by hand when it is passed by foot by a member of their own team. A return pass by header or by other body parts (e.g. a student's trained beer belly) is excluded from this rule.
If the ball is kicked beyond the endline by the offenders, it may only be brought back into the running game with a flat goal-kick. In doing so, the ball may not directly cross the centre line before another player of the same or the opposing team has contact with it. A goalkeeper’s pass which occurs in the running game is excluded from this rule. If the ball is kicked beyond the sideline, it is brought back into the running game with a throw-in. It is not allowed to roll the ball back in.
This rule does not apply.
14. Over-time/penalty shoot-out
Starting with the round of the last sixteen, there is an overtime of five minutes if a game is a tie after the regular playing time. If the game is still drawn after the overtime, it is decided in a penalty shoot-out.
For the penalty shoot-out, every team has to choose five shooters including at least one woman. If the game is still drawn after that, one player of the first team faces one of the other team until there is a winner to the game. The original five shooters may now be chosen to shoot again.
In games for the position in the final ranking of the tournament, the penalty shoot-out directly follows after the regular playing time in case of a tie. The penalty shoot-outs will take place on an extra pitch, so the regular matches can continue directly.
15. Ability for playing on the morning after
Like every year, we advise every player who may not be able to see let alone walk straight in the morning not to actively participate in any football game. This regulation is particularly meant to prevent the participants from injuries as well as to prevent any controversies resulting from uninhibited emotions. In case of infringements, we reserve the right to escort the troublemaker from the playing field directly to a cold shower.
16. Prohibition of barbecue
Open fire, including BBQ and pyrotechnics, are strictly forbidden.
You will get a bag for rubbish during the registration of your team against a security deposit, in order to prevent that the grounds look like after a vandal´s raid. It'll have to be given back filled with your litter at the end of the tournament.
We reserve the right to modify the rules at any time until the beginning of the tournament.
